Job Search and your Confidence Level





Job Search involves a sort of mixed feelings – anxiety, excitement, stress, panic, relief, frustration and more. Whenever changes occur in a tough economy, many job seekers tend to search for a job for a long time or out of work for a long time, this adds to your emotional bundle.
Many feel that their confidence and self-esteem levels are going down. They start to question themselves – if I am not getting called for an interview, then may be I am not fit enough? But in reality they are very confident that their performance for their last employer was exemplary.
They were successful once in job performance, well-liked, they could do any task, and they can provide examples where they contributed new ideas that improved operations, saved money for their employer.
The loss of confidence and low self-esteem is quite common during an extended job search and it is a normal reaction to the circumstances. It is only true that our identity is tied to employment – from the type of work we do, bringing home a pay check and being a contributor.
All of a sudden you lose your identity, monthly benefits and no one is calling you for the interview it is quite common with anybody to get upset. But it is important to control and work on your confidence. Your confidence level can seriously affect the efforts you take in job search.
If you want yourself to be viewed as positive, enthusiastic, and ready to work. Do away with low self-esteem, which can give employers the wrong impression and will lead you to continue your job search.
You may follow the following strategies that may help when you feel your confidence level is low:
• Be Positive –Just remember about your previous success stories and strength; remind yourself of your top performances.
• Take a break – be sure to schedule breaks to stay fresh
• Good Exercise – Those who exercise feel better about themselves and improve their physical stamina their confidence level increase.
• Relax yourself – find out what motivates you – a movie, dinner with a friend, Gardening, a good book…whatever it takes to motivate you for your efforts
• Take a course – Learn something new
Increasing your confidence level will make you feel better, improve your attitude, and help you to get better results!
